BA 747 Business VS First
Hello
I have booked a flight from London to Washington (and back) in BA business, and the outbound leg on BA293 (operated by 747-400) from London (leaving in the afternoon at around 5:10 PM) has availability to upgrade to first with avios. The avios price is 20,000 per person, and there will be three of us, so I will be spending a total of 60K avios for the one-way. I have flown BA business before and thought it was OK, but have never done first on BA.
Any thoughts on whether 20K avios per person is worth the upgrade on the ~8hr flight from London or should I just save my miles?
I was upgraded at the gate from biz to first on this exact flight this past summer. I thought First was a real treat. The service was excellent, the food was good, and the seat just a bit bigger and more private than business class.
If you upgrade in advance, you also get access to First Class lounge at Heathrow, which I’ve heard is a big upgrade over the regular Galleries lounge (I didn’t get to check it out since I didn’t know I was in First til I was standing at the gate).
If you have the Avios to spare, I’d say go for it. Avios tend to be most valuable for upgrades, anyways.
You actually get access to the Concorde Lounge in First which is a major upgrade from the Galleries lounges. I would do it for 20kpp unless you need those Avios for another redemption.
If you have the Avios to spare, I would absolutely do it. There’s a massive difference in experience between First and Business on BA.
