Are my Krisflyer points worthless

Are my Krisflyer points worthless

  1. Mark Roddis New Member

At the start of the year, my job took me to SIngapore at very short notice. Flying with Singapore Airlines I registered for the Krisflyer membership and 3 return flights later I am sitting on about 30k points and a Silver Status.

My work focus is now on the Middle East and Africa so it is unlikely I will be returning to Singapore (or anywhere Singapore Airlines flies) any time soon.

I am also sitting on about 60,000 Amex membership rewards points as well as various stashes of points with the likes of Avios and Virgin Atlantic .

I have looked at using the points (topped up with membership rewards points) for perhaps a round trip to Hong Kong as the Singapore redemption rates look reasonable however when I work it all through, the taxes and fees levied by Singapore come to around £420. I can get a cash fare from various airlines (such as Turkish) for less than that which begs the question “why bother”?

Indeed all options I have looked at seem to have the same challenge. In most cases, using SIA points seems to be an expensive way to travel.

I also can’t seem to find a way to transfer the points to anything meaningful hence the question at the top. Are these points really worthless?

Hi Mark, welcome! Singapore miles are quite valuable when used for premium cabins. With economy bookings the value just isn’t there, as you’ve noted.
