ANA First Class

ANA First Class

Hello. I’m looking to use Chase Ultimate Reward points to fly first class from NY to Tokyo on ANA. Is my best option transferring Ultimate Reward points to United and booking on ANA through them, or can I transfer to United, then transfer directly to ANA and book for less points? Any advice would be appreciated!

You can’t transfer points between programs, transferring to UA is the easiest, however you can also look at transferring to SQ as well.

I also hope you look at taking the one stop through FRA to fly LH F and NH F on one ticket 🙂

@Brad B is correct. Singapore first class on a *A carrier is to Japan is 100K while UA is 110. However SQ charges the surcharges. But if you are only going to Tokyo then they aren’t of great consequence. SQ’s change and cancel fees are less than UA. But UA is far easier doing it on their site or mobile app.

My only disagreement with Brad B is just take LH all the way! (ANA rarely opens the FRA-HND route anyway)

    Let’s see, 777 or 747-8i sitting in the nose…Hmmm.

@MarkS I agree I would take LH all the way for 110K miles plus 8 hours in the FCT is hard to beat, but @RB31 was asking about flying ANA. In that case I would fly LH JFK/EWR-FRA-HND then NH HND/NRT-JFK and see how they compare.

Thank you both for replying! The LH route through FRA looks amazing, but my understanding is this can’t be booked until 2 weeks before; is that right? I’m also considering visiting friends in LA, then flying Singapore business from there to Tokyo, with ANA first back to NY.

You are correct on the 2 weeks. You have a good plan. Secure your Tokyo-JFK ANA flight. If you want LH there is great availability during the week (esp. Tue/Wed/Thur) from HND to FRA which will then connect you to JFK. You will end up doing an overnight in FRA but visiting the FCT in the morning of your USA flight makes it worthwhile. All this requires, assuming the LH flights become available, is a change fee with UA. Points are the same.
