AMS-CLT with AA Miles
I’ve successfully gotten myself NYC-AMS by flying award AA to LHR and paying $67 to hop over to AMS with KLM. However, getting to CLT from AMS a week later looks impossible- insane BA surcharges and bizarre overnight + airport change layovers if I fly AA. I’ve got the points, but how would you recommend routing this to avoid surcharges?

He would still have to double-connect. Another option would be to take the short hop over to FRA on LH and then connect onto the AA flight from FRA-CLT with Saver space everyday (at the off-peak level from 11/1)
He never said he didn’t want to double connect. He said he didn’t want the insane BA surcharges (IB’s are less) and maybe there is a better connection which I can’t tell because I don’t have the dates. But if you’re correct on FRA to CLT then the train ride is a quick straight shot 3 hours or so from AMS to FRA, did it last year, so good call. But that flight leaves at 10:15AM so might have to train down the night before
If you are considering FRA-CLT, you could also take a train from Amsterdam to Frankfurt for around €40 (about four hours). I did this routing a few years ago.
