AMEX Targeted Offer

AMEX Targeted Offer

  1. Anonymous Guest

In the mail I received a targeted offer from Amex platinum business for 150,000 MR. This is met with $5,000 in 3 months for the first 100,000 MR and the additional 50,000 if I spend an extra $10,000 in that same 3 month period. While $15,000 is a lot of spend in 3 months I should be able to hit the threshold. My question is am I better off with this offer or with the BA current offer and an additional card or two with lower annual fees?

Brian: The current BA offer requires 20k in spending to unlock the full offer I believe and offers none of the flexibility of MR. If you’re able to spend the amount needed on the AmEx, I think it’s a no brainer. You could pick up another card with it and if spending is an issue just do the first part of the offer but with all the options for spending It shouldn’t be hard to manage this and another card or two in three months (of course this will vary with your personal situation and location). You could also max this one and then pick up another couple of cards. If I remember right the BA card gives six months to spread out spending so doing the AmEx first and then spending on the other cards would achieve the same timeline for you.

Even if you use a vary basic equation and if you just want Avios, you are getting 132k Avios with the AmEx with $15k in spending vs. 120k Avios with $20k spending with the BA card. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

As @Gaurav said, you should go for it. Comparing your offer to the BA card – your offer wins clearly. Also brings in the flexibility with additional transfer options, amex offers and so much. After year 1, to keep or not is your decision though! Don’t miss it.
