Amex Spend Review?

Amex Spend Review?

  1. Mongolianhippo New Member

4 weeks ago I got this error when trying to transfer Amex points to Marriott: “This action will not be completed at this time because your account is currently being reviewed to make sure all eligible purchases meet qualifying criteria.”

I’ve called multiple times. No rep or supervisor can give me a single reason why, or when my points will be free, and they say they don’t even have the phone number for the “team” that investigates this (sounds like they’re on an unmapped island, I’m guessing Isla Nublar). In the meantime, I missed out on the Marriott hotel going to category 8 I had my hopes set on, so thanks Amex.

-I have not bought any gift cards, like a good little boy.
-The most recent MR-earning card I got was the Blue Business plus 2 months ago. I met the minimum spend in one purchase but have used it consistently since then.
-I also referred my wife for an Amex card via my Business Gold Card.
-I have not committed any terrorism, money laundering, no high crimes or misdemeanors.

I’m sure some of you have went through this “spend review”… what was your experience? Thanks!

What was the eventual outcome and how long did it take? I’m getting the exact same message and I have not used any of my cards for anything outside of normal, everyday spending. I called last week and the rep gave me a 7-10 business day estimate.

It took a few months. I resorted to keeping a Word document of the dates, times, call lengths, and representative names I talked to along with what I was told on each call. I started emailing that document to Amex Membership Rewards and eventually the hold just lifted, but I was never told literally ANYTHING. It’s like the people that deal with these issues are in the witness protection program… no one you talk to at Amex can tell you anything about their investigation or progress.

Sigh…guess I’ll take their timelines with a grain of salt. Did you lose any points in the process? I’m extremely hesitant to put any spend on any of my Amex cards fearing the worst. Also, were you ever notified that your account was unfrozen or did you only find out with a successful redemption? Thanks for your input!
