With all the new upgrades announced for the American Express Platinum card, does that mean it’s a new American Express card? If we’ve had the current version in the past are we eligible for the sign up bonus for the new card?

No, Amex isn’t considering it a new product, just a revamp of benefits on the existing product. You would not be eligible for the bonus if you applied. However, there are different co-brand versions of the card – Mercedez Benz, Ameriprise, Fidelity, etc, that are considered different products. You can apply and be eligible for the bonus on those cards.
