Alaska MVP status

Hello

I am doing some flying with BA and Emirates in the coming months and was going to credit them to Alaska mileage plan. Even though I’m not flying any flights on Alaska Air, I will earn 25,000 qualifying miles. I was wondering, is there a minimum number of Alaska segments required to earn MVP?

Also, if I am already a BA silver and should decide between Alaska MVP vs AA gold, which is more valuable/useful? Alaska’s earning rates are much better but am not sure about the actual perks of each tier.

To my knowledge there is no segment minimum for Alaska status, but it take more flown miles than flying on Alaska own metal.

If you already have BA Silver, why would try and earn AA Gold since that is the same as BA Bronze?
