I was lucky enough a few months ago to get two Emirates F tix from Dulles-dubai-Barcelona with 100K Alaska miles for travel this November, with your post from last fall about Al Maha in mind. I’m still waiting though on a Starwood announcement for the rooms at Al Maha to drop down to 35% off with points. Can you tell me what time of year this has usually happened in the past? And if the redemption sale doesn’t happen this year, what’s your second choice in Dubai for a sweet spot using points?
I think last year it was announced in September but the years before that it was announced in July. I dont think theres anyway to tell for sure but Lucky will post about it when it happens.
Have you looked at his other reviews of Dubai hotels?
Hmmm, what type of property/vacation are you looking for, and which points do you have? There’s no place in the world quite like Al Maha, but happy to make some recommendations.
I just got back from Al-Maha. Quite an amazing place. One of the better luxury experiences in my travel lifetime… If the point reduction promo does not occur this year and you can afford it, perhaps the starwood offer of 3 nights for 2 using a Mastercard could be an option. That is what I did and I did not regret the expense.
As for other SPG hotels in Dubai, we loved Grosvenor House (cat 6). Its’ sister hotel Royal Meridien (cat 6) got some rave reviews from a couple we met there. We visited Mall of the Emirates a few times and the Sheraton there (cat 5) seems very convenient location wise and well kept as well. With the 5th night free on points, these could be interesting options.
