AirMiles and Hotel Points..A few questions

AirMiles and Hotel Points..A few questions

  1. sola solarin New Member

I live in Africa (Nigeria) and subscribe to the Skyteam loyalty program. I saw advertised recently that American AAdvantage is selling airmiles for 2 cents per mile and Starwood hotel group selling spg points at equivalent of 2.1 cents per mile. My question is can I use my debit card (mastercard issued by a Nigerian Bank) to buy these airmiles/spg points for use on a trip at a future date, possibly February next year. How do I proceed.?

Welcome @sola solarin ! You should be able to use your debit card to buy those points. Just go to the website of whichever airline/hotel is selling them (ex: aa.com) and you should see a link on the front page of the website. If you don’t see it there, you can always go to the page for that entity’s loyalty program and you should be able to find a link there. Good luck!

@sola solarin I guess the only thing I would add, not being familiar with the convertibility rules for the NGN, is to check with your bank to see if there are any restrictions on USD denominated purchases. If you are not already a member of the AAdvantage and SPG programs, I would sign up immediately because there are often restrictions around buying miles and points linked to a minimum period of program membership.
