Advice on booking a long Singapore First Award?

Advice on booking a long Singapore First Award?

So, I have a specific date that I’m hoping to snag a First Class award on Singapore Airlines, from JFK all the way to say, Sydney or Auckland. Since JFK => SIN is an award that I’ve seen snapped up within hours of it being loaded, I was considering the following strategy:

    – Book JFK => SIN for my date immediately when it loads
    – 1-2 days later when availability for the continuing flights to Sydney and/or Auckland get loaded, call and ask to add the segment from Singapore to SYD/AKL on the same award.

^ Does anyone have experience doing the above? Is it reasonable to expect that they’d be able to put the whole award on one ticket, or should I just wait the 1-2 days to book the entire thing at once, to make sure that I get it all on 1 ticket from the outset? I guess it’s a compromise between possibly losing my preferred date of travel, vs having to pay 120k+80k miles vs 155k for the full award I want
