I’ve recently changed the destination on an award ticket less than 21 days to departure. It looks like I was charged 2 fees, a $75 expedite fee and a $150 re-deposit fee. could this be correct? Are both the expedite fee and the change fee supposed to apply? I assumed I would only owe the $150 change fee as I didn’t change the departure date?

@pjs777 – I think the multiple charges are correct. As you say, the $75 is the close-in fee us non-elites must pay and I don’t think there’s a way around that.

Since you are changing the destination, i think the award has to be repriced and re-ticketed, triggering the $150 change fee. And if it’s for travel within 21 days, the close-in fee of $75 is also charged.

However, (and maybe im wrong or got lucky) if your origin and destination are the same and you only change the date or class of service, no fees are charged. I had an award booked for this past February and when I changed the date and time of the flight while keeping the airline, origin and destination the same, I was not charged any fees, even within a few days of travel
