AA SWU clearance chances – 77W v 789

AA SWU clearance chances – 77W v 789

I think I know the answer, but would love someone to tell me I’m wrong (or confirm I should go with my gut).

I am buying a Premium Economy ticket on AA to HKG and hoping SWUs clear into Biz. On the return I have the option of flying the 77W to either LAX or DFW, or the 789 from NRT (on CX from HKG to NRT). The 77W has more business class seats; but are those routes more premium heavy? I.e. is it just as hard to clear into business on the 77W as the 789? I would think the 789 is harder, but… I do like flying on the 789 over the 777. Thoughts?

Agree that the 789 is a nicer ride than the 777, but for me that would just be simple math. 52 biz seats vs 30 biz seats. You also have First Class on the 777, so potentially one or two may be buying business and upgrading to first, opening up even more seats.

I’d take my chances on the 77W, probably into LAX though since multiple flights per day (including Cathay), so just more seats overall up for grabs.

Thank you… hadn’t given much thought to my chances between LAX and DFW. I just hate the redeye from LAX to PHL. (I know I did not specify my city of origin… but it is obviously PHL.) DFW to PHL gets me back just after midnight (and on a Int’l 757 vs 321). Need to think about that one…

Going the other way, LAX is nice because of the Qantas lounge and the fact that you don’t have to catch an early morning flight to DFW.

There is usually a once daily A330 flight from LAX to PHL. Wonder if it’s the redeye and you can get on that?

Yeah, that would be nice. Both redeyes are on 321s. I am on the 330 on the way to LAX (itinerary is on hold). I don’t know why they don’t turn it around for one of the redeyes, but it is used instead for a morning flight. I just decided to go with the redeye.
