AA Partner Award Question

AA Partner Award Question

  1. Herewego New Member

Hi All! I’m planning on booking 2 QSuites tickets (using AA miles) for next year from LAX to Nairobi (through Doha) and was planning on doing it as soon as the award space opens up (later this year). However, I’m running into a problem because the LAX to Doha flight opens up a day earlier than the Doha to Nairobi flight (because of the time change and layover in Doha) and if I wait an extra day then the LAX to Doha flight seems to no longer have award availability. Can I book the LAX to Doha flight as soon as it becomes available and then amend the award ticket the following day when the second flight becomes available? How much would that cost? Thanks!

I think usually the AA change fee is $250 per ticket since you’d be “changing the destination” though I’d hope that doesn’t apply in this case. You can put an award on hold for 5 days, so put the first leg on hold on day 1, then when seats for the second leg open on day 2, call AA and get them to add it to your held rez. They *should* waive the booking fee but even if they don’t it’s a small price to pay.
