AA miles usage and accrual strategy

AA miles usage and accrual strategy

In a previous post, I asked if there was a way around the $350 fee to use miles to upgrade. After some discussion, this got me to thinking –

Has OMAAT come up with a 2017 strategy for AA miles use and acquisition, given all the recent changes to the AAdvantage program? What about a strategy for gaining status?

Well, one way was to book tickets that earn based on the special fares chart – https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-program/miles/earn/special-fares.jsp. This meant tickets from bank travel portals with a pay with points feature and paying for the ticket with a small amount of points. Travel packages also usually fall under this category.

Another way around the EQD requirement was to book partner tickets but credit to AA.

I think there is also a targeted status challenge from AA that’s available.
