AA Awards on CX
Hi,
I am looking to book my parents an award on CX in F from ORD-DPS, routing through HKG, using AA miles.
I have found availability on the ORD-HKG segment with one seat in F (no two seats are available right now) and the other in J, and I would just upgrade the J to F a few days before the flight, but by the time they go, the mileage redemption would have gone from 67.5K (or whatever it is to the Asia 2 region) to 110K for First.
SOOOOO…my thought was book the second F ticket on the ORD-BOS-HKG-DPS route and then change the routing from ORD-HKG-DPS a few days out when more seats open up. Since the origin and destination stay the same, I should be able to do that without a fee, right?
In theory this works, but do you think it would be too big of a risk? Just make one of my parents fly business? Or maybe I’ll just sign up for a new AA card and use the 50K sign up bonus to negate the upgrade issue.
Just want to hear some thoughts from other travelers. Thanks!
solo, in theory that works fine although no one know precisely how that would play out after the devaluation. Also you’ll have to judge if having your parents travel separately is a deal breaker since this is your worst case scenario.
