AA Award – Married Segments

AA Award – Married Segments

I have an award NYC-HKG on CX held with AA. i would like to add HKG-SGN to it but it is only available as a married segment. NYC-HKG-SGN is bookable and NYC-HKG is bookable but HKG-SGN is not. I called and the agent couldn’t modify the reservation to make it a married segment. She tried to add those separately. Is there any way to modify my existing hold to include the married segment?

I’m not sure that I understand your issue… Why don’t you simply book the new itinerary, especially if your NYC-HKG is on hold? It means they haven’t deducted any of your points yet, and that you won’t have to pay any award cancellation fee.

If you want to be really safe, book the new itinerary and THEN cancel your hold on the other one (if you cancel your first itinerary it could mess up availability for your new one). Let me know if I’m missing something.

Problem is that I have 2 seats on hold and there is only one full award still open so I will have to release them back into their inventory to add the segment if they can’t break it apart.

Then in that case, here’s what I’d do:
1 – put the available NYC-HKG-SGN on hold for one person.
2 – cancel NYC-HKG for one of you, but keep the other.
3 – monitor HKG-SGN until departure in case an award opens up, and book a separate ticket.

Alternatively, simply purchase a HKG-SGN ticket for your companion; if you have to get to SGN that may be your only option anyway if award availability doesn’t open up.

Just remember that cancelling an award doesn’t mean that the seat will go back to inventory, especially if it’s on CX. CX might decide to put that seat back up for sale and not as an award, which is why you should put the new itineraries on hold before you cancel any previous hold.
