AA award change fees
Sorry if this has been posted before but I believe AA now charges a $150 fee on award tickets if you change the airline. When did this happen? I just argued with a AA supervisor about this and looked up the rules online after hanging up.

I thought it was 100 dollars haha, but I’m not 100% sure. SAAver awards do have a change fee though while AAnytime awards do not. That is one of the perks of booking a more expensive AAnytime award
@Nolan — I believe there’s some nuance to what AA considers a change in airline, which is what makes the difference. What airlines did you have on the ticket before, and what were you changing to?
@Tiffany I had a RJ award in biz from AMM-ORD nonstop and wanted to changed it from AMM-AUH on RJ then AUH-ORD on EY in biz. If you look at the rule it says “For awards involving travel on other airlines…..”
I interpret that as any award involving a partner and any kind of change can incur a fee. When did this change?
@Nolan–I think we’ve been seeing AA charge for changes that involve changes from AA to partners or between OW partners and non-OW partners. Not sure exactly when that began but seems like that’s what you are encountering. Did you make the change?
I refuse to pay the fee so I did not make the change. It wasn’t that long ago that I changed routing and parners without fees so I was surprised at the fees this time around. No announcement from AA of course and maybe I missed any blog entries about the changes or no blogger covered it.
