787 Deplane @ L1
Just was wondering about my United flight tonight. Gate 76A @ LAX if that matters. 787-10.
I had never deplaned at L1 before, on a larger plane of course. We boarded L2 at Newark.
It was great actually b/c I was in row 1 for the larger footwell. I thought i had 11 rows to back track to get out.
Boarding at L2 is great so all of Coach doesnt walk past you. And exiting at L1 makes sense too so there isnt the whole coach having to wait for all of J.
I was wondering why this doesnt happen more? Is it just the gates are equipped to deplane at L2? Was this a special gate tonight or was this done on purpose with the intent to allow J off with out coach having to wait?
I recently flew LOT 787s in and out of Warsaw. When we boarded in Chicago, the gate only had one jetbridge so we boarded at L2. In Warsaw there were two jet bridges so we deplaned at L1. But on the trip back we were at a different gate and there was only one jet bridge so we boarded at L2. So I guess it depends on what gate you’re assigned and how many jet bridges it has.
Most gates aren’t equipped with two bridges. So the standard is boarding through door L2. Some gates (at least at my airport), the bridges cannot swing forewords enough to even go to door L1 on certain aircraft types.
Generally you’ll only see the two bridge boarding/disembarking if you have a special gate that is equipped with two bridges
Ya know what you mean about the 2 jet bridges. In this case, although it may have not been the intent, it made sense. To me if were talking wide body and a premium first class product, board through L2 but deplane at L1. Not a big deal either way…
