13 Year Old Traveling Alone?

13 Year Old Traveling Alone?

Ben, as you mentioned in your ‘about’ section, you spent your summer traveling at 14, I am 13 and I’m interested in traveling alone for maybe 2 weeks or so, and would like to know how you did it, since I know I am old enough to take planes on my own without being an unaccompanied minor, but I can’t stay in hotels on my own. I’m not quite sure how I can travel around on my own without having to stay in the airport 24/7 and wait for my next flight, (unless that’s how you did it?)

You’re not old enough on most airlines to travel alone without a $150 UM fee. Southwest will let you travel alone without an additional fee, but I know Delta and United won’t.

I’m looking to travel internationally, so I probably won’t be running into delta or united.

    Sounds fun!

Each airline has different rules and ages for traveling as an UM. Ben’s flights as a teen were mainly domestic, and he pretty much stayed in the airport or flew right back. I don’t think he booked a hotel by himself until he was 17.

Oh, ok, well, I’ve just got 5 more years left! Thanks anyway.
