Using SPG Activity to Qualify for Legacy Marriott Lifetime Criteria

Using SPG Activity to Qualify for Legacy Marriott Lifetime Criteria

  1. tr2286 New Member

    Hey Everyone,

I have been a loyal SPG member for the last 3 years (Platinum 100 nights for 2, and regular platinum for 1). Taking card bonuses etc out, i have roughly 225 lifetime nights but only 3 years of elite status and dont qualify for Lifetime SPG Gold under the new rules.

Marriott posted that legacy qualification requirements remain active for both programs until the end of 2018. My question is, does my SPG activity count towards legacy qualification requirements? I easily have the SPG equivalent of 1.2 million lifetime Marriott points and can definitely make it up to the 250 nights mark to high the old Lifetime Silver Elite by the end of the year. Reason I am asking is that the equivalent of lifetime gold now seems even farther away than previously so it would be nice to have something to hold me over.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

I’;d wait a couple weeks then check the app or online to be sure – it’ll tell you what you need for lifetime.

    Thanks David!

I finally heard back from my ambassador and it seems that this wont work. Here is the official wording:

Regrettably, Marriott Rewards Lifetime requirement does not overlay with SPG. With this, you will not be able to achieve the Lifetime Silver under the Legacy Marriott criteria. If you would like to achieve the Lifetime status based on Legacy Marriott requirement, then it would be solely based on legacy Marriott requirement. Which is 250 nights + 1.2 million points for Lifetime Silver.
