United PQM question

United PQM question

    Could someone fact check me?

I earn most of my miles under United MileagePlus. So I’m looking to book NYC-Kiev in business. United shows codeshare flights with LH A380-800 plane at $2,460 and 19,292 PQM round trip.

But I really want to fly Austrian’s 767 but OS is not showing up on United. At the Austrian website, business fare is $2,452. But what about earning PQM? As I read the United site, a P class fare earns 200% of miles flown. Using MileCalc.com, NYC-VIE-KBP roundtrip is 9,810, at 200% = 19,620 PQM.

Have I got this right? This trip will be a big part of my 2017 status qualification so I don’t want to mess this up. Many thanks in advance for your comments.

Sounds like you did your math right.

Be wary though of not booking on United ticket stock though. They don’t award PQDs (only PQMs) for partner flights.

For instance, I flew SAS business last week for 4 flights and now have 4,500 PQMs on United for 2017. But, my dollars are still at 0.

You can select connecting airports with UA on their website and you may be able to select VIE

Also remember about earning award miles, you will earn 19,620 if you book on Austrian ticket stock but will earn based on fare on UA, so unless you are Premier Platinum or 1K you will probably earn more award miles booking in Austrian. If you might hit the $25K CC spend don’t worry about PQD, if not decide if the award miles are more valuable to you.

Rickyw, thanks I hadn’t thought about PQD. I usually, not always, hit the Chase requirement but thanks for reminder.

Bradb, good points to consider. Currently Plat for 2017, want to try to keep Plat in 2018 so I think the PQM for me is more important

    Thanks all…..

@rud01 You should get the same PQM if you book on UA it Austrian, the only thing you will miss out on by not booking UA is PQD.
