Offer Free Gold Status + (10) 500 mile – AA

Offer Free Gold Status + (10) 500 mile – AA

Hi – I received an offer for free gold status and (10) 500-mile upgrades from American.
I have an upcoming trip from NYC to Madrid in Business class on American. I redeemed miles for it already. Will this benefit me in any way? Should I change anything?

Also, I am planning to book a paid flight on Iberia from Madrid to Tenerife. Can I use these upgrades on Iberia?

    Thank you!

Nope, Gold status won’t really benefit you much in the near future it seems. You have to be at least Platinum with AA to get lounge access on international itineraries (regardless of what cabin you book in). But, since you’re in business class already, you’ll be all set there.

Unfortunately, the 500 mile upgrades can’t be used on Iberia – only on American planes within the USA/Caribbean/Mexico/Canada.

Can I pay 10,000 AAdvantage points to upgrade on Iberia? Am I reading this chart correctly?

Yes, if you booked a Full Fare economy ticket (usually flex fare or a ticket with no penalties for cancellation or changes).

A flight on IB from MAD-Tenerife this coming April can be as low as $80. A full fare economy ticket on the same flight is $650. A paid ticket in business class on the flight is $575. For a flight that’s less than 3 hours in the air, it’s really not worth it, especially in intra-Europe business class.
