Hilton to Marriott/SPG status match

Hilton to Marriott/SPG status match

I’ve been a loyal Hilton HHonors with Gold status and we use our AX HHonors card for purchases. I would like to switch to a Marriott/SPG program in 2016 and am wondering if they are doing a status match and what credit card I should switch to maximize my benefits… thank you!

The programs are not going to be merged at the start of the 2016. They’re going to remain separate for at least the first half of the year, if not until 2017 (which would be my guess). You need to look at your travel for at least the first 6 months of 2016 and see which chain works better for your travel.

Marriott’s loyalty program benefits are pretty much worthless in my opinion. If you can make Starwood work for you, go with them and get the SPG American Express card. You’ll have to contact Starwood about a status match. They may offer you a status challenge. They rarely offer outright matches. You can get SPG Gold easily by either simply having the Platinum American Express card (SPG Gold is an included benefit) or by spending $30k a year on the SPG Amex.
