Free Platinum status with AA until October 31st, 2019

Free Platinum status with AA until October 31st, 2019

  1. Buddy M. New Member

    Hi,
I’ve received an email from American airlines offering free Platinum status until the end of October and the only thing I have to do is register. The email says that I also get twenty 500-mile upgrades in addition to the status. I’ve received this email before with an earlier expiration date and didn’t take them up on the offer because I wasn’t going to fly during the time frame in the email. This time I will be making an epic trip using AA miles leaving from PHX and going first to SEZ and then MRU before returning. The trip will end on October 22nd so I’m good there. I already have BIZ class seats for the international segments(QR) and first class for the domestic(PHX-DFW and LAX-PHX) on AA. So is there any reason to take them up on this offer? I can’t help but think that they aren’t going to keep offering me Platinum status and I don’t have any further plans to fly AA in the foreseeable future. Are the 500-mile upgrades worth anything to me? Are they transferable? The email doesn’t say anything about when they expire. Thanks, Buddy M.

The 500 mile upgrades are not transferable. However, you can use them for a companion, if they are on the same reservation as you. If they are on the same flight as you, but on a separate reservation, you have to call AA to process the upgrade.

Note that you need to have current AA elite status to request upgrades.

I was given AA Gold via a promo similar to yours and was given some 500-mile upgrades. I didnt use them all before my Gold expired and they upgrades stayed in my account but I cant use them until I have AA elite status again.
