Crediting miles from Qatar flights to AAdvantage
I have another question after reading a bit into the topic of crediting miles to AAdvantage. I will have some flights in Qatar business in the next months, mainly between Europe-Doha-Asia. I am aware that the AAdvantage would offer much for than Qatar’s ff program. However, when reading the terms on the AA website, I get the impression I only can credit the miles for AA code share flights, and have to book it with that AA codeshare on the ticket – which is not the case when I book my flight directly on the Qatar website, right?
“Travel ticketed as an American Airlines marketed flight (booked as an AA codeshare flight number) and operated by Qatar Airways will earn AAdvantage base miles and elite qualifying miles, points and segments according to the AA mileage accrual chart.”
Also most flights Europe to Doha are codeshare but not Doha to Asia. So in the end I will still collect more miles with Qatar’s program? Am I missing something?
Sandra–travel booked directly with QR will earn mileage based on the chart at https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/airlines/qatar.jsp. It is only in the situation that you book a ticket through AA that the above line would apply.
The citation above is exactly from that page. Still quite confusing.
@Samoa The citation is mentioning an exception. If you book a QR flight through any other source than AA you will earn mileage based on the chart above that quote. If you buy the QR flight through AA, you will earn miles based on the regular AA award chart. Does that help?
This means you can earn AA base miles, class of service and elite qualifying points on any Qatar flight worldwide (no matter of codeshares) when booked on the Qatar website directly. Is that correct?
@Samoa correct, based on the class of service as shown in the chart.
So in the end it’s seems really smarter to credit to AA since their redemption seems to be easier. Thanks!
