Advice on getting to Lifetime Marriott Platinum Premier

Advice on getting to Lifetime Marriott Platinum Premier

  1. Gregory S. New Member

Like many other people, I am angry at the new Marriott Rewards program. I was on track to earning Lifetime Platinum (now Platinum Premier) probably next year, but now it is going away, and I have until only Dec. 31st to try to make it. I have 774 stays and 1.765 million miles. That means I need 235,000 points by Dec. 31st. I already have a Chase Marriott Rewards. If I get an SPG Rewards card would those 75K or 100K points apply to my Marriott Lifetime status? I will probably have 20 stays to the end of the year and can charge those to my existing Marriott Rewards card. I think I have read I can buy up to 50K points. Do those points apply? I figure my best strategy is to get as close as I can and beg for eligibility based on my 25 years of brand loyalty. Any other thoughts?

Credit card points should count towards lifetime status.

If you have 20 upcoming stays, let’s say the average stay is $150. That’s around 18,000 points if you spend on the Marriott Rewards card. Plus the points you’d earn for the stay is another 40,000 or so.

If you stay at Marriott regularly, are there stays you know you will have for 2019 already that you can book pre-paid rates, so that you can get the credit card points this year?

Rickyw – Thanks for the reply. I may be able to get close. 100,000 points for credit card enrollment plus the 55,000 points or so as you reference above. The key is that I have read I can buy up to 50,000 points per year @$12.50 per 1,000. Another blog on another site mentioned that these purchased points do accrue to lifetime status. I need to confirm it. That puts me at around 205K of my needed 235K. I can probably close the gap with the promotion and credit card spend. I would wait to the very end and buy the points needed. I figure a two night mattress run of $100/night in the new promotion may yield 7,700 pts. if needed.
