AAdvantage Earning Status

AAdvantage Earning Status

  1. Anonymous Guest

I recently signed up for Aadvantage in anticipation of an upcoming trip on American, and I am confused about how many miles I will earn and if I will attain status or not.

From what I understand, miles are awarded based on distance. According to my itinerary:

YYZ- DFW: 1199 miles (one way)
    DFW-HKG: 8111 miles (one way)

I am doing this round-trip, all in business class.

Can anyone guide me through how many miles I earn, and if I get status with American after the trip?

    Thanks,

    Jason

hi Jason, take a look at http://goo.gl/mg0rWp. It looks like you will earn about 37288 elite qualification miles and 18648 class of service bonus which are redeemable but do not count towards status so you should be able to easily get Gold status. I am not super familiar with the AA program so maybe @Tiffany can confirm my numbers are correct and if earning elite qualification points might get you higher on the elite totem pole although that doesn’t seem likely.

Ah, so AAdvantage is tricky here. You can earn either elite qualifying points or elite qualifying miles — and can qualify for status on either.

So here are the things to consider:

Your trip is 18,644 flown miles

You’ll earn 100% of the base miles that are elite-qualifying (so 18,644 which wouldn’t get you status)

However, you earn 1.5 points for each mile flown in a premium cabin (so 27,966 which would give you Gold status)
Thanks for clearing things up @Tiffany. Didn’t realize the site was doubling mileage.
