AA Platinum. Standby to NYC different airport

AA Platinum. Standby to NYC different airport

  1. Jack New Member

Hi Lucky and forum, I’ve gotten some conflicting responses from AA regarding this question. Perhaps some real world guidance, new to platinum so I’m still learning the ropes and benefits.
I have flights ticketed from LAX to LGA via DFW. I was hoping to use my standby privilege to go non stop LAX to JFK with of course an upgrade to first.
A: Is it permissable to go standby into a different airport on a different routing? One agent told me only if I pay 200, another said no problem.
B: Is there a chance in hell of upgrading on the non stops? Tues/Weds flights so not the worst load.
I’m also curious if there is easier trick to figure out loads other than making fake reservation to reveal what seats are available on a flight.
Thanks so much, any quick advice or warnings greatly appreciated.
    Jack
