Thanks to this blog I was able to fly international first class for the first time! Below is the itinerary I took, so if anyone has any questions about the flights/hotels, feel free to ask.

SFO to CDG on UA in J (Paid economy + GPU)

Great service. Decent food. I don’t mind United. 2-1-2 is a strange layout. I had an aisle on both sides of me.

Eurostar from Paris to London

Nerd in me was excited to take the Chunnel.

Andaz London (Hyatt CC certificate)

Decent hotel. Nothing amazing. Location is why you stay here. On top of the tube.

LHR to BOM on BA in J (AA miles)

I originally booked a seat in F. Plane got switched to a 2 class a month out. Two hours before it switched back to a 3 class. I didn’t get F and I lost my window seat in J. First world problems.

JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar

New hotel right next to the airport. Great breakfast.

Four Seasons Mumbai

Four Seasons service can’t be beat.

BOM to GOI on AI in Y

My seat kept falling on the person behind me.

Grand Hyatt Goa (Point + Cash)

Solid resort. Great massage. Service was lacking.

GOI to HYD on 6E in Y

I was in row 2. The flight attendant told me the space under the seat in front of me was for row 1 and not me…

Trident Hyderabad

Nice modern hotel with good service. Next to a KFC 🙂

Taj Faluknama Palace

It’s a palace…

HYD to DEL on AI in F (UA miles)

Only person in F. While it’s a domestic flight, it’s operated by a 777-300. Great service. I had a personal flight attendant. No alcohol…

DEL to FRA on LH in F (UA miles)

A380. Lufthansa. First Class. Wow. First flight that I didn’t want to end…

FRA to CDG on LH in J (UA miles)

Inter-euro business class…whatever.

CDG to SFO on UA in Y (GPU didn’t clear)

First long haul economy since 2012. Wasn’t bad. Had exit row and my seat mate was small. UA 767’s are 2-3-2, so the 2 wasn’t bad.

Sounds like a great trip!

I hope you called AA regarding the downgrade to J on the LHR-BOM leg. At minimum you should be credited the difference between F and J. Taxes might have been slightly lower for flying in J instead of F but I’m not entirely sure.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun! First time in India.

I called, and they refunded the difference. I got 10k points back and I think a few dollars in taxes + fees.
