Hey folks!

I got a fairly(??) long question for you guys –

I am trying to make a Hawaii honeymoon and need some inputs!

Flying from Abu Dhabi to JFK (hopefully in Etihad first class). I can take another first/business flight to the west coast and then onward to a Hawaiian island!

Q1) Which city should I fly in? San Francisco? LAX? Others?
Q2) Which is the best Hawaii destination using points and miles – i already know this is a horrible question, so please feel free to only answer Q1!!

Q1 – Hawaii is tough on awards. I’d fly into whatever city has availability.
Q2 – I havent been to Hawaii yet but I think the answer to this really depends on what you want to do. There aren’t any amazing hotel redemptions in Hawaii. I’d probably first narrow down where you want to be in Hawaii and then check out hotel options.

Given that award availability to HI is tough, unless you find something from the east coast I’d lean towards flying to the west coast even though you won’t be able to take the 380. That way you can add on a cheaper cash or avios or AS companion fare to HI and maximize your time in a premium cabin. Almost all the major hotel chains have a presence in HI but keep an eye on resort fees rules. I believe there is a cat 4 SPG resort on the big island (double check this) that you could use for a nights and flights redemption.
