Delhi India destination
Hello. Anyone have ideas on best way to fly MIA-DEL January 2018? I have 1.3M on AA and only 80K with AMEX, 80K on ThankYou points. I am OneWorld Emerald with (6) SWUs to use before end of January.
One thought is the most obvious: MIA-LHR using SWUs, then Y seat on BA (argh) for 8.5 hours LHR to DEL.
Second thought was MIA-HKG using SWUs then CX Y seat for 6.5 hours HKG to DEL. CX being far nicer than BA. HKG connection being far nicer than LHR.
Just wondering if any one has another idea.
more info: pay with cash and try to use miles / points for a better experience….. btw
I’d definitely try to avoid the long stretch in Y seats.
What about MIA-ATL-DOH-DEL on Qatar? Can you do that as one award? I always get confused with AA when it comes to transfering in the Middle East.
We have nonstop Qatar MIA-DOH flights, but in order to use SWUs we need to be on AA metal. I’m checking NRT, PVG but Im thinking it really is only the MIA-LHR-DEL option. Going thru HKG adds $1600 to the ticket, sadly.
Well, bummer. Good luck!
Got it. MIA to HKG using SWUs paying in cash. Then separate ticket on AsiaMiles…. using points (ThankYou Citi, and CapitalOne and AMEX to AsiaMiles) to either Cathay or HongKong Airlines from HKG to DEL.
Bad news. The only points that I can transfer are the AMEX miles. The Citi TY and CapitalOne only seem to work for the “cash” payment portion. I guess this is a lesson on the benefits of AMEX points. Unless, I am missing something.
For flights that long I’d rather just use your stash of 1.3m AA and get a nice seat for the whole route… I know it blows wasting upgrade instruments but c’est la vie.
I would just use the miles and book on Etihad, personally. Ideally through JFK to enjoy the A380. The miles are never going to be worth more than they are right now.
