Connecting between alliances

Connecting between alliances

I will be flying SFO-LAX-LHR on AA and then LHR-LIS on TP. These are two separate tickets. I have 4 hours 25 minutes for the connection, which I think should be enough. Is it possible to check my bags through to LIS even though AA and TP are not in the same alliance? If not, what should I anticipate having to do? Would this require clearing customs in LHR and rechecking my bag?

Per this flyer talk thread from 2014 it sounds like the two airlines do have an interline agreement so technically it should be possible to check luggage all the way although from personal experience I’ve learned that your experience at the terminal can differ from what is technically allowable. If you can’t get luggage checked through it would depend on the luggage set up at LHR but if they don’t have a luggage transfer option before customs and immigration you would have to clear those to recheck your bags. Maybe someone more familiar with LHR can chime in.
