Advice for transiting LHR on my way to NCE!
I am looking for some advice regarding transiting LHR on an upcoming trip. I am flying SFO – LHR on UA 901 arriving into Terminal 2 at 6:55 am. I am then flying LHR to NCE on BA 346 at 9:45 am (about a 3 hour layover). The BA flight departs from Terminal 5. The flights were purchased on separate tickets. I am planning on checking my bags on UA only to LHR, claiming them on the carousel and rechecking them with BA to NCE, as I have not had good luck with bags making inter-airline connections at LHR in the past. Here are my questions: 1) Will I have to clear customs / immigration to do this? 2) Will I have to be rescreened – or can I remain within the sterile area? 3) What’s the best way to get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5? Thanks for any advice from the LHR experts!

1) yes
2) rescreened
3) I’ve only transited LHR once – on a single ticket, both flights on BA – and had to be rescreened so I am making an effort not to transfer there again whenever possible. Hopefully someone else can chime in on the best way to change terminals.
The best way to go from T2 to T5 is probably the underground. I believe it’ll be free since you’re not leaving the airport.
You can take the Heathrow Express from T2 to T5 for no charge!
