AA seat assignment on Avios ticket

AA seat assignment on Avios ticket

  1. FE1

So I booked MIA-JKF on AA using Avios and attached my AA number to the booking via Finnair website, I see it in my AA account and should be ok as far as precheck is concerned but still can’t select any seats. AA customer service say I might not even be able to check in online but at airport only. Any ideas on a work-around? I’d really like to select (and pay) MCE seats, don’t have any status with AA. This has got to be a very common problem so would love to hear if there’s a solution.

That seems odd. I’m pretty sure I’ve used Avios, done the Finnair workaround and then selected seats. How long has it been since you changed the FF number?

It’s been 24 hrs since I changed the FF to my AA #. Flight is Monday morning. Just got off the phone with an AA agent again, she confirmed that the inventory Avios books into does not allow seat assignment or online check-in but requires to go to check in at airport – which sucks big time. So far I have used Avios exclusively for short European hops, always without any issues. The current AA experience makes me very hesitant to use them for AA domestic economy again, and first class is terrible value on Avios. Any input from Tiffany, maybe??

I have booked so many Avios tickets, and have always been able to select seats and check-in online. I’ve never heard of this :/.

I googled this issue and seems I am not the first or only one. The AA rep was quite firm on it, she at least appeared to know what she was talking about. I’ll try online 24 hrs before departure and see what happens.

Just to update my own post: I was able to select seats only 24 hrs before departure with online check in, not a minute earlier, no access to MCE seats though. Pre check worked.
Above was same on both outbound and return. Not perfect but you get what you pay for…

Did you also get priority boarding?
