When does Cathay Pacific revise seat availability?

When does Cathay Pacific revise seat availability?

I have an Alaska miles-booked Cathay Pacific flight Shanghai to LAX, with a stopover in Hong Kong. Couldn’t get business class, so I’m in “premium economy,” which should be ok for my return trip. Premium economy was not available for the first (Shanghai-HK) leg of the trip, so I’m booked into regular economy for that one, but the Alaska ticketing agent said that I should call later to see if the PE seats become available on the flight (if so, they can reassign my reservation to that class without charge since I’ve already paid for PE). My question is: when and how frequently should I call them to check on changed seat availability? The flight is four months away.

BA’s website will show CX PE space – you could check there and call AS when you see space.

    Hi there,

I have a related question: currently have Cathay (CX) booked for 2 people in premium economy from HKG to SFO in mid-April using Alaska (AS) miles. Would prefer to fly in business, on Cathay or JAL. We are somewhat flexible on departure city (HKG, SIN, BKK, KUL) but not as much on dates — just two dates that work.

Have had alerts set up for the last 3 months and have not seen anything come up on either airline.

We need to buy positioning flights from our last destination (in Thailand) to the departure city, and it’s around the Thai New Year so those are getting more expensive over time. But we’re willing to wait if it’s likely to be worthwhile.

So, I was wondering whether the collective wisdom is that 2 business class seats are likely to open up closer to date, since we’re still four months out? And if so, whether HKG vs one of the other cities is more likely (would then think about buying positioning flights sooner)?

Take this with a grain of salt, but at least for the US/Japan routes, JAL opens a lot of business and first award inventory a couple of weeks out (2-4 weeks).

I don’t know if that applies to intra Asia routes as well, but if you check AwardNexus or ExpertFlyer for the routes that you want for the coming weeks it should give you at least a hint of how much last minute space they open. Now with the Thai New Year, of course it could mean that they won’t open anything.
