What to do with 100K Amex MR points? Newbie to Points Collecting.

What to do with 100K Amex MR points? Newbie to Points Collecting.

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hello

I am a newbie to the points collecting hobby, therefore, a bit short on ideas (and possibly info). I live in the UK.

I have an upcoming return flight (me and wife) with QR in J: MAN-DOH-HKT.
We also have approx 8000 miles balance in each of our QR Privilege club accounts.

Plus, I have 100K Amex points sitting in the MR points. I need to transfer these soon as I intend to close my AMEX account.

Therefore, I would welcome any ideas about my predicament
Which (oneworld) airline programme I should credit my miles from the flight to?
This especially important as I also have 100K Amex points which can be transferred to either of Asia Miles, BA Club, Delta, EK, Etihad, AF-KLM, Iberia Plus (Same as BA Club), SQ and SAS.

This is really stressful! I must have grown a couple extra white hair thinking about this in the last few days! Please help..

    -Rohan.

What do you intend to do with the transferred miles? That’s what it depends on – each program has their pros and cons:

BA – Good for short haul travel, distance based, heavy surcharges
AsiaMiles – Has some sweet spots incl oneworld RTW awards
Delta – Good for SkyTeam partner awards, especially to Asia, miles never expire
EK – awards are expensive though some value can be had from upgrades and/or redeeming for JFK-MXP/EWR-ATH
Ethiad – Some unique partner redemptions
AF-KLM – SkyTeam awards though can be pricey. PromoAwards can be useful.
IB – May charge less surcharges than the same award using BA Avois
SQ – SQ Premium Cabin Awards. They basically dont release seats to partners. miles have a hard 36 month expiration date.
SAS – Dont know enough about this program to comment.
