What are some suggestions for teenagers in regards to reward programs?

What are some suggestions for teenagers in regards to reward programs?

Over the last year I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to fly a lot (Mostly domestic, but one trip to China) and having achieved American Gold because I flew so often, I find myself struggling to maintain the status for next year.

@Aaron M, If you’re not flying much is there a reason to hold on to the status? I think that would be the question to ask. There is really not much secret to AA status other than flying them and maybe getting 10k EQMs through the AAdvantage Executive card or AAviator Silver (assuming since you are a teenager you have access to neither). Maybe find some cheap flights that you can take before they switch to revenue based mileage later this year? Google flights, Kayak, and the Mileage Running forum on Flyer Talk are all good options for fares.

That’s kind of what I am thinking of doing. What about the AA gold promotion. The truth is that I am still flying about 10-20 K a year, but its not enough for status. Last year I had a lot of flying in a short period of time (30 K in 90 days)

Which gold promotion are you looking for? A status match?

  5. Aaron M New Member

Not a status match. Doesn’t AA offer a promotion for if you fly a certain amount of miles in 90 days they will grant you status?

You’re looking for a status challenge, details are here: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2016/01/05/how-to-do-an-american-aadvantage-status-challenge/

You can’t challenge to gold from gold so you would have to go for platinum and figure out if the upfront costs are worth it for you.

Oh, didn’t know that. That’s to bad. I guess I will find some really cheap fares to fly on…

If you are struggling to maintain AA gold switch to BA. Again, sorry for selling BA. I have posted repeatedly that you may get BA gold in 3 days at next to nothing within 3 days. BA gold is way better than AA platinum exec and certainly better AA platinum.

Interesting. I’ll have to look into that.
