Use BA 24hr cxl to secure CX flight?

Use BA 24hr cxl to secure CX flight?

I’m trying to change the date on my pre-deval CX F award and keep seeing award space disappear just before seats are available to AA members (sometimes less than 6 hours before).

So in order to secure the seats, I’m thinking of booking a BA Avios + cash award the day before seats open to AA, then cancel that award when American should have access, wait 10 minutes, call up AA and change the date on my reservation. Thoughts on this plan? Will the CX seat go back into inventory right away?

Supposedly my Avios will redeposit immediately and the cash portion will refund to my CC within a few days (which is totally fine for me; just started a new billing cycle).

I think it is worth a try but assuming the seat goes back into award inventory, someone could very well snap it up in the short time between you canceling via BA and calling AA to book.
