US AIR to AA

My mother had a US Air account forever and built a lot of points. She stopped traveling a couple years ago, and then ended up in a rehab facility for the last year. She did not know of the merger etc, so now I am wondering how I can make this work so she does not lose all the points, if possible . Thank you , Mike

Call American Airlines and give them her US Air account information, they have assigned her an AA number now but they can still recognize her under her US number. If the account has not been used in 18 months by either flying or adding miles via credit card it needs to be reinstated which you have to pay for and the amount necessary depends on the number of miles in the account. Less than 50,000 miles $200, 50-75k $400, more than 75k $600.
