Upgrading on Etihad
I was booked in Economy on an upcoming trip from NYC to India on Etihad for work. I would like to use miles or any means to upgrade, and I don’t know how to go about doing it. I called American already and they said that I would have to do it through Etihad because the ticket was booked through Etihad, not America. Does anyone know how I can do it?
Etihad has upgrade options here:

I think you should try the bidding system or wait until check-in for paid upgrade options. Etihad is usually pretty good about selling upgrades at check-in.
I wouldnt use Etihad Guest Miles for the upgrade though, the rates seem very high if you booked a very cheap ticket.
Although if you want to guarantee an upgrade miles might be your best option before seats are released to auctioned upgrades. Citi thank you points and AmEx membership rewards points both transfer to EY although there is a little bit of a lag for them to get there. Also check to see if there is upgrade availability before making the transfer. Good luck!
