Upgrading from Business to First on Emirates

Upgrading from Business to First on Emirates

I’m wondering if anyone out there has any experience or advice on trying to bump up from business to first on Emirates. The best attempt I could make to find first class Hong Kong to LAX via Dubai has been First from Hong Kong to Dubai and then Business from Dubai to LAX. Of course I am being charged 100K miles for this itinerary despite the fact that it is first on the shorter leg of the two part trip. I keep checking back on line but am not finding anything opening up. (Alaska mile redemption). I realize this isn’t unusual when checking mile redemption on Alaska airlines. American, Delta, Emirates are all either stingy with all category through flights or inconvenient itineraries.
