Hi All,

I’ll be flying from HKG —-> BKK –> DOH —-> ORD —> HKG on a CX Business Class award ticket. I was wondering if I could upgrade the ORD HKD sector at the check-in desk at the time of flying, without having to redeem the miles for the whole ticket in First. I’m paying 140k Asia miles for this ticket in J, and it’s 220k for a F class award, even though the HKG/BKK and DOH/ORD legs don’t have F class. Would it be possible to pay the normal 60k miles to upgrade my Business Award Ticket to First for the ORD/HKG sector or not?

I’ll be flying the following route, all on CX, QR and AA Business.

HKG/BKK/DOH/BOS/LGA/ORD/HKG

I paid 140k Asia miles for this routing. To book this whole route in F class, I would have to pay 220k, which I don’t want to pay, as one of the two flights with an F Class cabin (BKK/DOH QR) is a red eye, and I plan on sleeping throughout the flight. However, ORD/HKG on CX Business is a daytime flight which I plan on enjoying, so I would like to upgrade this sector. The Asia miles award finder said it would be 60k to upgrade this sector alone. Do you think it would be possible to upgrade this award ticket sector to F class at the check-in desk, using 60k miles? Or would I have to book the whole award in first?

[USER=1496]@Mallesh[/USER]–being US based most of us aren’t very familiar with the Asia Miles program. I took a quick look at the site and the answer didn’t jump out at me. While most airlines charge based on the highest class of service, being distance based, I’m not sure how Asia Miles handles this. Have you tried giving them a call? Hi [USER=1496]@Mallesh[/USER]! In general, you can’t upgrade award tickets with cash.

So if you want to fly in first, you’d need to redeem miles for a first award. And if you’re going to do that, I would spend the extra 20k miles and do the whole trip, personally.
