To Marriott Travel Package or Not?
I hadn’t considered getting in on a Marriott Travel Package until yesterday. Crunching the numbers, I realistically would only be able to get to the 220K redemption level by the end of July, and it’s highly unlikely that I’ll ever stay seven consecutive nights at a single property (maybe five, tops), so I would be among those hoping the “floater certificate” converts back to points at a favorable rate after Aug. 1.
Knowing that, would you recommend I:
1) Sit tight and just transfer my SPG/Marriott points to an airline (utilizing the 5K bonuses, of course) when I have a specific redemption in mind down the road?
2) Do the 220K transfer for 70K Alaska Miles (my preferred program, where I already have 100K+ miles)?
3) Do the transfer but to United to get 77K miles, which I can always supplement by transferring UR points for an aspirational award?
Finally, are there any recent data points of people not in the Marriott Vacation Club getting approved for the 5-night package?
Thanks in advance!
As of now, it sounds like waiting for more info is the plan: https://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2018/07/13/marriott-travel-package-new-program/
I have recently read that several people not in the Vacation Club have been able to get the 5-night package.
