Thai still reliable to release more seats when you book the first two (BNE -> BKK)

    Hey Ben —

Four years ago you wrote that Thai airways always released business class award seats in groups of two, releasing a new pair every time the first two got taken.

I’m looking to get my family of four from BNE to BKK this summer. I note that pretty much every non-weekend day has two business class seats available.

Is it still true that as soon as I book two (with United miles) two more will become available?

Are United miles the best to use for this purpose (30K for the 9.5 hour business class flight)?

Hi LarryInNYC! That’s still broadly true, but depends on availability. The rule is probably better described as “There may be more than two seats available, but only two will ever display at one time.”

So no guarantee that additional seats will open up, but absolutely worth trying. And definitely use UA miles — that’s a sweet spot in their award chart.
