QF denies AA F award on QF1 (SYD-LHR)

QF denies AA F award on QF1 (SYD-LHR)

    Dear Lucky,

Thanks to you, I was able to find two first class tickets on Qantas from Sydney to London via Dubai for August. It was Qantas Flight #1, but when it came time for ticketing, AA told me that they could not book that award flight; it must be a flight with a different flight number. So instead, they put me on QF1 from Sydney to Dubai, and then QF9 originating in Melbourne, connecting in Dubai with a final arrival in London.

I spoke to two supervisors both in Australia and the US and neither of them could clearly articulate why I can’t fly QF1 all the way through. Any thoughts?

I don’t know, unless there wasn’t actually award space on the second segment and the agent just held it wrong or something?
