need tips on booking award ticket LAX to DPS

Does anyone here have any experience with booking an award ticket business class for two for a destination that does not have a direct flight, meaning there’s a stopover somewhere

I’m interested in LAX-DPS in september one way, with a return itinerary of SUB-LAX
SUB does not have a direct flight to LAX
I’m thinking of using ultimate rewards points to fly, and I’m looking into KA, with LAX-Seoul-DPS on the way in
I looked at the korean air redemption chart and it only listed a roundtrip ticket, so if I’m only interested to book one way ticket, is that mileage requirement is going to get cut in half?
also “KA website say Ticket Award is not applicable to an itinerary via Korea. Only applicable to direct flights.”
would this mean I have to book the award itinerary separately with LAX-seoul then seoul-DPS?

any airline would work if I can travel business for free for two on that route
Any advice would be greatly appreciate, thank you 🙂
