LHR to JFK AA Award

LHR to JFK AA Award

My significant other and I are going to be in London the weekend of 7/31 and would like to return to NYC. I am a huge fan of OMAAT and travel frequently for work. The tricky part is, I usually fly Virgin Atlantic but their award availability & cost doesn’t make sense for this trip (I.e. I can go SFO to LHR on 787-9 for same points on A340 JFK to LHR), plus it’s an additional ~650GBP. Doesn’t sit right with me.

I would like to fly the 777-300ER on American in either First or Business on that Sunday, 7/31. I am having trouble finding award space on American, the only thing I can find is the BA 747 direct LHR to JFK and I prefer American’s new business/first service on the 300ER much more. I am sure you can agree.

I’d like to use my AAdvantage points before they expire as well. How can I find that award availability on that day with American?

@BBT — Welcome! It sounds like there just isn’t award availability on your dates, which isn’t uncommon. You’re not missing anything, sadly.

Thanks @Tiffany ! That’s unfortunate as the cabin on the 777-300ER is fantastic. Although I did see Lucky’s post on his trip in BA First on the 747 which didn’t look too shabby!

Appreciate you telling me how it is and what I should expect 🙂

Have you also tried to look for space on other days, maybe 2-3 days before or after your specific date? You could lock in something now, keep checking back and changing the dates later if/when availability opens up.

Another idea could be trying to find space on one of American’s other European destinations and booking a BA connection, and then changing it later?
