Krisflyer waitlist

Krisflyer waitlist

Hi Lucky,

I have a question about Krisflyer waitlist rules that I can’t find the answer to anywhere else..

If I’ve been waitlisted for a business class redemption can I still book a seat in the economy cabin on the same flight without affecting my position in the waitlist?

Thanks in advance,

Sohil

Hi Sohil, welcome. When you say “book” do you mean purchase a seat, or book an award seat in economy? If the latter, the answer is Yes. You can book an award seat in Y and waitlist for J. If by book you mean pay with $ (or your currency), then I am not sure of the answer – would you purchase refundable ticket? {See edit below.}

Hi OCTinPHL,

Thanks for your response!

Sorry I should’ve been clearer, purchase a refundable economy seat with $ while awaiting waitlist clearance.

Update: from TPG in 2019:
”6. Use the waitlist as a tool to upgrade. You can also call Singapore to book a confirmed seat in economy or business class and have the agent waitlist you for a higher class of service. Once the waitlisted seat is confirmed, the ticket can be reissued — the agent will deduct the additional miles required and you’ll need to pay a $20 service fee. This could help make the jump from business to first class, though remember that you have to have enough miles for the more expensive redemption in your account.”

Seems to supersede Lucky from 2015:
”Can I book a Standard award and waitlist for a Saver award?
No. For example, if a route has twice daily frequency you could confirm a Saver award on one flight and at the same time waitlist yourself for another flight. However, you can’t book a Standard or Full award on a flight and then waitlist yourself for a Saver award on that same flight.”

Though this may be comparing apples and oranges. TPG seems to be saying that purchasing with $ and waitlisting is OK. OMAAT is saying you cannot confirm a Y award and also waitlist for the same flight – though that is from 2015.

See above – per TPG what you want to do is OK.
