KLM vs Air France vs Delta – SkyMiles redemption

KLM vs Air France vs Delta – SkyMiles redemption

Hi there. I am planning a trip to Rome using Delta points in economy and was wondering what the best flight options would be. The itinerary would be:

DL – SFO – ATL (or JFK) – FCO Departs SFO 7:45am/8:30am – Arrives FCO 9:45am/10:45 am -or-
KL – SFO – AMS – *FCO Departs SFO 2:30pm – Arrives FCO 1:45pm -or-
    AF – SFO – CDG – *FCO Departs SFO 2:40pm – Arrives FCO 3:10pm

    *Operated on Alitalia.

    All connections are 1h 45m to 3h

What is best for connections, entertainment, food, comfort, service etc… Thanks!

From the 3 choices above, I’d go with KL SFO-AMS-FCO, since it’s one long haul flight followed by a short intra-Europe flight. Connecting in Paris is tough, given the size of the airport, and distance between terminal concourses. Connecting in ATL and JFK isnt that bad but you’d be avoiding two medium/medium long flights.

I’d actually lean towards the first option and take some melatonin to make sure I sleep. That way you get to Europe early in the morning and have a full day to use and to hopefully get your body clock synced.
